Digital Media Career Academy
It's hard to believe that the school year is off to a start that no one could have anticipated. This year at Millbrook we are molding the minds of roughly 2700 students. Of those 2700 students, 149 are Academy Rockstars....that's about 5.5%. Though we are small we are mighty!
Small but mighty. That phrase reminds me of a William Shakespeare quote, "though she be but little, she is fierce." When I think about our program, I smile because this quote almost always comes to my mind. Yes, we are a small program, but the work that our students do it truly fierce!
Since the beginning of school our students have been running around staying busier than ever. The 9th grade cohort is finally settling in to their new home 'da Brook - and I couldn't be happier - this new cohort is the definition of awesome! The 10th grade is reconnecting and taking the skills they learned last year into the iMac labs - their thirst to keep learning is truly inspiring. The 11th grade is busy rediscovering what they learned last year and extending it to further measures than we ever thought possible. And the seniors are busy at work with the Production Company and the the Internships. The buzzings of the students is revitalizing for many.
On the Administrative front: field trip plans are coming together (many already hammered out), events are starting to be planned, the Ambassador Council is selected (first meeting September 29) and the Advisory Board is busy planning in house experiences for our students. Be on the look out for the first field trip packet to be sent home soon!
Until next time,
Mr. Dail began his teaching career at Millbrook in 2012. When the idea of creating a Career Academy came forth in 2013 he helped plan and launch the DMCA. Prior to being the Academy Coordinator he taught the former 9th Grade Multimedia course within the cohort structure.
